What Buyers Should Know

Edinburg CISD serves Edinburg and parts of north-central Hidalgo County (~35,000 students). Edinburg HS, Economedes HS, Edinburg North HS, and Robert R. Vela HS anchor the district. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Edinburg campus drives a uniquely educated parent base.

Edinburg CISD employees in eligible roles may qualify for Homes for Texas Heroes, a TSAHC program for full-time public school classroom teachers, teacher aides, school librarians, school counselors, and school nurses, along with other public servants. It may provide down payment and closing cost assistance of up to 5% of the loan amount, with no first-time-buyer requirement. TSAHC’s 2026 Heroes income limit in Hidalgo County is about $172,550 at any household size.

School jobs outside those five, such as administrators and support staff, aren’t on TSAHC’s Heroes list, but those employees may still qualify for Home Sweet Texas, which offers the same kind of assistance with a Hidalgo County limit of about $152,250. First-time buyers may also be able to add a Mortgage Credit Certificate.
